PNF Stretching

Using PNF techniques, we enable your body to become more limber and flexible Through a painless set of easy, guided exercises, you will regain full range of motion in your arms, legs, neck and back.

What is Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitated (PNF) Stretching?

Proprioceptors are sensors built into each of your muscles to protect them from strain. As you perform your daily activities, these sensors determine how long each muscle is expected to stretch. In essence, they use these determinations to set up warning limits to keep you from stretching too far.

Now, suppose you start a new physical activity that will actually need the muscles to elongate further, such as by beginning any sport after having spent your life sitting behind a desk. You will want to re-set these sensory limits to allow your muscles to extend to limits appropriate for this new activity. Under our guidance and assistance, using PNF techniques, you cause your muscles to reset themselves to allow greater elongation without pain.

As indicated in the previous paragraph, we donąt actually stretch your muscles: The physical lengths of your muscles are established as your body grows, since the muscles are attached to specific points on your skeletal system. This means that each muscle has a given amount of potential for elongation and contraction, but if it is only lightly used, your body gets to understand that only limited elongation should be required and that anything more should set off a warning alarm (which is felt as a pain).

Treatment Details

PNF procedures are generally performed on the massage table, with the client dressed. Loose-fitting, lightweight clothing such as would be used during exercising, is best.

Often the treatment is done following a full-body deep muscle massage, so that the muscles are relaxed and warmed-up from the start. This also helps to determine which muscles need to be given special attention.

Treatment Duration and Fee

The fee for a half-hour PNF treatment is $30, however the treatment duration can be longer or shorter, depending on the particular condition that is being relieved. The fee will always be discussed before treatment begins.
